Split Fiction

Hazelight · Electronic Arts

Split Fiction is Hazelight Studios' 2025 co-op adventure, from the team behind It Takes Two and A Way Out. Like those games, it is built only for two players. Mio and Zoe are writers, one of science fiction and one of fantasy, who get trapped inside a machine that turns their stories into living worlds. To escape, they must work together through both genres. The result is a game that changes constantly. One chapter is a cyberpunk city with hoverbikes and laser swords; the next is a dragon-filled fantasy realm. Short "side stories" break things up with completely different ideas, and like It Takes Two, almost every chapter introduces new abilities that both players must combine to progress. Split-screen is the way to play. Hazelight's Friend's Pass also lets someone who does not own the game join online, but for a cafe visit, sitting side by side on one screen is ideal. Recommended setup PS5 or PC with two controllers on a large screen. A big TV helps because the screen is divided for most of the game. Tips for a smoother session Talk through every puzzle; many need both players to act at the same moment. Do not skip the side stories; they are some of the most inventive sections. Take turns being the one to "lead" when you explore, so both players feel involved. If one of you is less experienced, let them pick the character they feel comfortable with; both have equal roles. Session length The full game takes around 12 to 15 hours, so it is a multi-visit adventure. A two-hour session usually covers a chapter or two. Who will enjoy it Couples, siblings, best friends, anyone who loved It Takes Two, and pairs who want an evening of cooperation rather than competition. Its age rating is not listed in our records, so check the store page if you are bringing younger players.
