Alan Wake 2
Remedy Entertainment · Epic Games Publishing
Alan Wake 2 is Remedy Entertainment's 2023 survival horror game, published by Epic Games, and a sequel to the 2010 cult hit Alan Wake. It follows two characters: Saga Anderson, an FBI agent investigating ritualistic murders around the small town of Bright Falls, and Alan Wake, a writer who has been trapped for thirteen years in a nightmarish realm called the Dark Place. The game switches between both stories, and they shape each other. Saga uses her Mind Place, a mental detective board, to connect clues and profile characters. Alan can rewrite scenes in the Dark Place to change his surroundings. It is a strange, inventive, often unsettling game, mixing live-action video, music and horror. Combat is slower and more survival-focused than the first game. You use light to weaken enemies before shooting them, and ammunition and resources are limited. Is it a good cafe pick? Alan Wake 2 is single-player, but it is a great game to experience on a powerful PC or a PS5 with a good screen and sound. It is visually one of the most impressive games of recent years, especially with ray tracing on PC. Recommended setup A PC with a strong GPU, PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. Use headphones and dim lights if possible. Rated M. A few pointers Use your flashlight to burn away the darkness on enemies before shooting. Explore for supplies; ammo is limited. Use the Mind Place to organise clues. Save at break rooms. Do not rush; the game rewards attention to detail. How long to book The main story takes about 15 to 20 hours. Book two hours and you can expect to finish the opening chapters of Saga's story. Is it for you? Horror fans, fans of Remedy's games like Control, and players who enjoy strange, ambitious storytelling.
