God of War Ragnarok

Santa Monica Studio · Sony Interactive Entertainment

God of War Ragnarök is Santa Monica Studio's 2022 sequel to God of War (2018), published by Sony. It continues the story of Kratos and his son Atreus as Fimbulwinter, the great winter that comes before Ragnarök, grips the Nine Realms. Prophecies, gods like Odin and Thor, and Atreus' search for his own identity drive a long, emotional story. Combat is the core of the game. Kratos fights with his Leviathan Axe, Blades of Chaos and, later, new weapons, mixing heavy hits, runic abilities and his shield. Atreus helps with arrows and abilities. Fights are brutal and cinematic, and boss battles are huge. The game also offers a lot to explore across all Nine Realms, with side quests, hidden collectibles and optional bosses. In 2023, Santa Monica added Valhalla, a free roguelite mode where Kratos fights through rounds of combat with random upgrades.
