Rocket League is Psyonix's car-football game, first released in 2015 and free-to-play since 2020. The pitch is simple: rocket-powered cars, a giant ball, two goals. The skill ceiling, though, is enormous; top players fly through the air and pass off the walls. What makes it great for a cafe Rocket League supports split-screen for up to four players on one console. That means a group of four can have a full two-versus-two game on a single screen, or team up against online opponents. It is one of the most social games you can play in the same room. Modes Standard games are three-versus-three, but there are also one-versus-one Duels and two-versus-two Doubles. Extra modes include Hoops (basketball), Snow Day (ice hockey with a puck), Rumble (power-ups) and Dropshot. Matches last five minutes plus overtime if tied. Setup PS5, PC or Switch all work. PC and PS5 offer smoother frame rates. A controller is the standard way to play. You need an Epic Games account, and cross-play lets friends on different platforms team up. Tips for beginners Practise jumping and boosting in free play before jumping into matches. Learn to rotate: in three-versus-three, take turns attacking and defending instead of everyone chasing the ball. Collect small boost pads instead of just the big ones. And do not try aerials in your first session; focus on hitting the ball on the ground and in the direction you want. Time Each match lasts about five to seven minutes. An hour gives a group lots of games. Many Rocket League fans book two hours because "one more match" is very real. Rocket League has a long-running pro scene, and it is rated E, so it is great for younger players too.
